Zara and the Fencing Teams ‘On Point’ at RGS Worcester
Congratulations to Zara Martin-Green who has been selected by British Fencing for her first international Fencing competition. Zara has been invited to attend the EFC Cadet (Under 17) international event in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday 26 November as part of the British Fencing Development Squad.
Zara has also recently competed in a British Ranking Under 17 event in Manchester, where she finished 17th, and has also been selected to Fence Women’s Epee for the West Midlands Region Under 18 team in the Cadet Winton Cup, held at Millfield School in December. She has also qualified as a Level 2 Fencing referee!
Zara’s achievements are just one of many good news stories from the RGS Worcester Fencing teams. On Sunday 16 October several of our fencers travelled to Warwick School to compete in the 2022 Warwick Age Group Epee.
In the Under 14 Girls, Isabel Pottinger finished just outside the medals in 4th place, with Jacob Hartley and Callum Monday finishing 9th and 10th respectively in the Under 14 Boys. In the Under 19’s we achieved double firsts with Matthew Fallows winning the Boy’s event and Zara Martin-Green winning the Girl’s event. Henry Adams also fenced in the Boy’s event finishing 8th overall. Alumni Flyn and Will Osborne were also at the event refereeing the younger Fencers.
Our Under 14 and Under 12 Fencers were also in action on Sunday 13 November in the Warwick School Age Group Foil competition. Isabel Pottinger finished an excellent 2nd in the Under 14 Girl’s event, losing in the final to Gloriosa Sung of KEHS who is the West Midlands Under 14 champion and ranked 26th in the under 17 age group in the UK. Gabby Bendow finished a creditable 4th in the same event.
Congratulations to all of our Fencers for their impressive achievements!
