The 14th Modus Challenge Cup at Sixways Stadium
Excitement is mounting at RGS, as the 1st XV Rugby squad prepares to compete in this year’s hotly-anticipated Modus Challenge Cup. The RGS Worcester team will play against local contenders, King’s Worcester at the impressive Sixways Stadium, home of the Worcester Warriors on Wednesday 17 November.
Now in its 14th year, this annual event is very much a highlight of the school calendar, providing an opportunity for both teams to show their pace and power on the pitch. The opportunity to play at a Premiership ground is one that the players will never forget and the fixture is eagerly awaited. With no fixture played for the last two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, unusually none of the players will have had this experience previously.
Mr Rob Lewis, Head of Rugby at RGS Worcester said: “After 18 months of no competitive Rugby fixtures due to Covid-19, it has been fantastic to witness the enthusiasm, motivation and above all else the enjoyment that the Sport has brought back to the School during this term. The Senior Rugby squad have had a terrific start to the season and with Modus being unfortunately missed last season, it will be a great occasion to have the RGS Family supporting our 1st XV team, in what will be a tremendous spectacle. We are very grateful for the support of the Worcester Warriors and from Modus, to enable the match to happen.”
1st XV Rugby Captain, Ben Gaubert adds: “This year’s Modus Challenge Cup is going to be a great occasion and will be a true highlight of my Rugby career. Having the opportunity to play at a Premiership level stadium with thousands of spectators, alongside my peers will be fantastic. It will be a privilege to lead the players out for the 14th Modus Cup and I look forward to seeing our RGS Friends and Family supporting the team.”
Supporters are welcome to attend the match and tickets can be purchased in advance from the Worcester Warriors Ticket Office, online at warriors.co.uk/tickets or from RGS Worcester. Advance tickets are priced at £5.50 for under 19s, £8 for adults, or £10 for adults if purchased on the day.
Please do come and support this event and cheer on the RGS team!
