Supporting our Local Communities at Christmas
RGS Worcester pupils and their families have made a tremendous effort to support local communities at Christmas by making Christmas boxes for the New Hope Worcester Children’s Charity and collecting food donations to support the Worcester Food Bank Appeal.
Year Eight pupils and their families bowled us over with their generosity by creating more than 50 Christmas boxes for the New Hope Children’s Charity. New Hope is a charity in Worcester that runs a Saturday club and holiday club for children aged 6-19 years with a variety of additional needs and disabilities.
The care so many took to source items and then wrap, decorate and even add little notes is what makes them even more special. Mrs Sally Houchin, Assistant Head of Year Eight commented: “Staff at New Hope were hugely appreciative when the boxes were delivered and expressed how much joy these boxes bring to the children they care for at Christmas”.
Similarly, a fantastic quantity of food donations has been made to provide emergency food support to local people in need through the Worcester Food Bank Appeal at Christmas. Worcester Food Bank is part of a nationwide network of food banks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Donations ranged from store cupboard essentials, snacks, treats and sweets, much need toiletries and cat and dog food to ensure all family member’s needs are met this Christmas.
A huge thank you to all the pupils and their families for their generosity and support for those in need in our local community. We as a community are so proud to see our pupils think of others at this time of year and make efforts to support them.
