Success On The Table
RGS Worcester Under 13 and Under 16 Boys’ Table Tennis teams were both in action over the weekend at the Worcestershire Schools Individual Table Tennis Championships.
The RGS Worcester Under 16 Boys’, Jack, Harry, and Jonathan, all won their first stage groups. Progressing to the last sixteen of the competition, all three of the RGS Worcester Boys continued their success, each winning their matches 3-0.
In the quarter-finals Harry and Jonathan faced each other, with Jonathan beating Harry 3-1 in a great match. Jack also won his quarter-final 3-0. Moving on to the semi-final stage, Jack won 3-0 and Jonathan lost 0-3.
Jack continued his success, winning the Final 3-1, in a tense affair, after going a set down. Jonathan lost the 3rd place play-off 2-3 in another terrific match. Jack’s success in the tournament saw him named Senior Player of the tournament.
In the Under 13 competition, RGS Worcester were represented by Alfie, Ciaran, Adam, and Finn.
Alfie came second in a very competitive first round group and went on to reach the quarter-final stage where he was knocked out by a very strong player from a local school. Adam also came second in the group stage, winning two of his three matches and reaching the quarter-finals, where he was knocked out by the eventual competition winner.
Finn and Ciaran both also qualified from the group stage, with Ciaran winning his group and Finn finishing second. They played each other in a high quality quarter-final which saw Ciaran emerge victorious with a 3-0 win.
Ciaran went on to beat a very confident player from Blackminster School 11-7,11-6,11-6 in the semi-final. This was a great result to reach the Final. In the Final, Ciaran played very well but ultimately lost out in a close match to the number 1 Under 13 player from a local school 3-0 (11-7,11-7,11-9).
Winning the Under 16 competition and finishing runner-up in the Under 13 competition were tremendous achievements and all team members gained valuable experience for the future.
Congratulations to both teams and best wishes for continued future success.
