Sixteenth Cologne Christmas Markets Adventure
The sixteenth Cologne Christmas Markets trip took place at the end of the Michaelmas term. This annual excursion has become a tradition at RGS Worcester, offering pupils a superb opportunity to enjoy the festive spirit of one of Germany’s largest Christmas markets and purchase some early Christmas presents!
Pupils from Years Seven and Eight embarked on their journey early in the morning on Sunday 17 December, for a two-night stay in a Youth Hostel in Cologne. This allowed pupils to explore the city and markets on Sunday evening and throughout the entire day on Monday.
The aroma of festive treats, twinkling lights, and the lively atmosphere of the Christmas markets provided the perfect backdrop for our pupils to immerse themselves in Christmas spirit and practice their German language skills, making language learning a real-world adventure.
In addition to the market festivities, the pupils had the opportunity to visit the iconic Cologne Cathedral. Another highlight was visiting the Lindt Chocolate Museum—a paradise for chocolate lovers. Pupils explored the fascinating world of chocolate-making, from bean to bar, gaining insights into the art and science behind chocolate manufacturing.
The success of this trip would not have been possible without the staff giving up their time at the end of a busy and long term and the enthusiasm of our pupils. Thanks must go to everyone who took part and contributed to making this trip a resounding success.
