Senior Debating Dinner Celebration
On Friday 12 May, nearly 40 Debaters gathered in Main Hall for the annual Debating Society Dinner. This was a fabulous occasion, giving us the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Debating Society for the 2022-23 season. Debaters from Years Eleven to Upper Sixth all attended to toast the year’s success and say a fond farewell to those who will soon be finishing their A Level studies at RGS.
The current cohort of Upper Sixth students perfectly embody the extraordinary qualities of RGS Debaters, showcasing remarkable achievements in competitions and fostering an exchange of skills and ideas among their peers whilst mentoring younger Debaters. This effort has been led by the outgoing President and Vice President, Tobey Butler and Isaac McManus, who themselves broke finals at Cambridge and Warwick respectively. Tobey has been the driving force in organising the Debating Society this year and Isaac has been instrumental in training the Middles (Middle School Debaters).
With the Debating season coming to a close, we look forward to the appointment of a new President and Vice President to step into Tobey and Isaac’s shoes and lead the Debating Society to further success next year. The future looks bright for the Debating Society, with Oxford and Cambridge finalists among those coming through the ranks.
