RGS Worcester Secure Challenge Cup Victory
On Wednesday 1 March, The RGS Worcester Family of Schools united to support the 1st XI Football Squad as they played in the annual Football ‘Challenge Cup’ fixture against King’s School at Sixways Stadium. The RGS Worcester and King’s School football teams played in front of a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters in a game which proved to be an exhilarating display of skill and talent that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
Both groups of supporters cheered as the 1st XI teams took to the pitch. The game began with both teams showing their skills and determination to gain possession of the ball, with RGS Worcester having the best of the first passages of play. However, as the game reached half-time, the score remained goalless, and the tension grew.
During the half-time break, RGS’s Head of Football, Mr Gary Leeds, motivated the team, and they returned to the pitch stronger than ever, and they dominated the second half of the match. After two quick-fire attempts on goal, the momentum of the game shifted and RGS Worcester scored their first goal in the 75th minute through Harvey Shaw. This was followed by a stunning free-kick attempt from Kobe Chikosi. The RGS team continued to pressure the King’s School team, and Charlie Williams sealed the victory in the final minutes of the game with a second goal, making the final score 2-0.
