Year Ten Experience University Life
Last week, a group of 24 Year Ten pupils visited Oxford on a beautiful sunny June day to explore the University for its Open Day. The pupils got to look around several different colleges: Dr Russell’s group visited Hertford and Trinity while Mr Hallet’s group saw Balliol and Jesus. They also enjoyed exploring the famous Blackwell’s Bookshop, seeing the Bodleian Library, and absorbing some of the city’s other historic sights. The Open Day is a bustling, vibrant occasion when everything in the University is open to explore, and it is a great chance for anyone who might, in a few years, consider making an application to the University.
Year Ten pupil Rachel Crookall wrote the following about the trip:
“I really enjoyed our trip to Oxford – the city was beautiful, and the weather was great (if a little hot!). During the Open Day, our group went around Hertford College, which, despite being one of the smaller colleges, was very pretty and had a very ‘RGS-like’ atmosphere. We also went to a talk at Trinity College about admissions and life at an Oxford college. I found this very useful, as I didn’t know a lot about how applications and the college system worked. Some student ambassadors also shared what they liked about life at Trinity College, which again was interesting and useful. I’m also glad that we had time to spend in Blackwell’s, Oxford’s famous bookshop, where our group had the opportunity to browse and pick out a book or two! Overall, it was a very fun and useful experience, and I can’t wait to go back for another Open Day.”
