Year Nine Prepare for DofE Assessed Expeditions
Our substantial Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award cohort consisting of nearly one hundred pupils recently engaged in a practice expedition in the picturesque surroundings of Hanley Swan near Malvern. Benefiting from favourable daytime weather conditions the cohort was divided into two groups, with each undertaking a mini expedition comprising detailed navigation exercises, Trangia safety protocols, and other campcraft activities.
The groups experienced an overnight stay under canvas, encountering diverse conditions such as prolonged heavy rain and significant drops in night time temperatures. Despite these challenges, important lessons were learned, providing ample preparation for the upcoming Assessed expeditions scheduled for late June.
Year Nine pupil, Isabelle Hardiman commented: “We enjoyed the practice expedition orienteering from our drop-off point to the camp before we set up our tents for the evening. The expedition has given us invaluable experience ready for the full expedition in the summer.”
