Worcester International Hockey Centre Takes Shape
Work on the new Worcester International Hockey Centre has continued over the past months and we can see this exciting new venture, a partnership between RGSW and Worcester Hockey Club and supported by Worcester City Council, really taking shape.
The most noticeable change is that the Hockey pitch surface has been laid with several thousand tons of tarmac, in preparation for the laying of the carpet – creating a real sense of the Hockey games that lie ahead! The lighting columns and luminaires have also been installed – these will provide a state of the art lighting system, allowing maximum and targeted spread of light to the pitches. Fencing is also in the process of being erected, marking the perimeter of the pitches and the irrigation tank is currently being installed. We can also see the essential groundworks being prepared in readiness for the next exciting step – the development of the Pavilion.
The Centre will provide RGS pupils the space to develop their Hockey skills combining superb facilities and outstanding coaching and, together with the Astroturf pitch at RGS The Grange, creating a superb tournament venue. Partnering with Worcester Hockey Club offers a pathway for RGS pupils to participate in the sport locally at Club level as well. It will raise the bar for Hockey provision in Worcestershire and the West Midlands, with the potential for international fixtures to be held at the Centre.
Headmaster, John Pitt, said, “I drive past the new facility each day on the way to School and can see the new Centre taking shape. It is wonderful to see us pressing on with new facilities even during this difficult time. It is great to be able to look forward to pupils using what will be an incredible Hockey facility, as well as the opportunity to work with Worcester Hockey Club and the local community to promote Hockey in the area. Now that we can start to see the vision become a reality, it has become very exciting indeed.”
Members of the RGSW community and Worcester Hockey Club have the opportunity to show their support for this amazing new sporting facility by ‘buying a brick’. More than 100 bricks and stones have already been purchased and these will be prominently displayed at the new facility for all to see each time they visit the Worcester International Hockey Centre. A named brick costs as little as £60 with larger options available. Some RGS parents are combining their support and promoting their businesses with stones carrying logos costing just £348.
To show your support, and have your name on display or to promote your business, please visit the alumni website to see the options.
