Trinity Term House Report
The final term of the academic year began in earnest with House involvement in the second annual RGS Giving Day event, starting with donations to the Worcester Food Bank being counted and Mr Joyner’s Whiteladies contributing the most items.
In the Active Challenge, it was Year Eight ‘Otters’ who impressed the judges with their enthusiastic participation in a mass workout on the lawns to take maximum points. At the start of May, Ottley followed this up with a win in a keenly contested Spelling Bee competition in the Lecture Theatre, impressing the English Department with their exceptional performance. The Rubik’s Cube race returned, with Wylde maintaining their dominance in the event for the second year in a row despite a number of new participants learning how to solve cube.
Over the May Half term, Mr Friend’s Elgar House took first place in the annual Litter Pick Challenge, with an impressive number of pupils and staff tidying up their School and wider communities in association with the Eco Council. Wylde reigned supreme in Tennis at the start of June in both Junior and Inters short versions of the game in Cobham Hall as the race for the overall title entered the final stages.
The ever-competitive House Mathematics event again provided the perfect opportunity to crunch the numbers, with Ottley winning and narrowly beating Elgar into second place. To bring the curtain down on the 2023-24 House competition, attention turned to St Oswald’s Fields for Sports Days on three sunny afternoons. It was Wylde in particular who impressed across the full range of track and field events. In the Inters competition, they finished no lower than second place in the Years Nine and Ten Boys’ and Girls’ competitions and took first in Senior Girls’, Year Eight Girls’ and Year Seven Boys’ events. Much to the delight of the returning Dr Davison, these performances helped Wylde take the Trinity term trophy by the narrowest of margins after it had looked as though Elgar would be the House to apply pressure at the top of the overall leaderboard.
In the end, though, there was no stopping Ottley’s procession to the annual House trophy title, and Mr Webster confirmed their first-place finish overall – a very well done to the Otters!
