Training Weekend Prepares Pupils for Borneo Expedition
From Friday 21 to Sunday 23 March, a group of pupils took part in an intensive training weekend in preparation for their upcoming three-week Expedition to Borneo. The weekend was designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge to ensure a successful and rewarding experience overseas.
Pupils participated in a range of activities aimed at building resilience, teamwork, and practical skills. The group camped in the Forest of Dean by the River Wye, where they cooked team meals on a budget, reinforcing their ability to plan and work together. The training provided vital knowledge on dealing with emergencies in remote locations and covered potential scenarios they might face during the expedition, ensuring they are well-prepared for any challenges. They also learnt how to put up a hammock in the forest, a skill that will be useful when living in the rainforest during the conservation project they will undertake on the expedition.
In addition, the group took part in a challenging hike to prepare them for the demanding terrain they will encounter while trekking in Borneo. Leadership and problem-solving tasks encouraged them to think critically and support each other under pressure.
The training weekend strengthened the pupils’ practical abilities and helped to develop strong team spirit. As the Expedition draws closer, excitement is building and the team is feeling increasingly confident about the adventure ahead.
We wish them the best of luck on their journey to Borneo in July!
