Teamwork, Fun, and Friendship: The Impact of Our School Trips
At RGS Worcester, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, and a key part of our Co-curricular education is offering pupils the opportunity to grow through hands-on experiences. Our diverse range of trips and expeditions are designed not only to enhance the academic journey but also to help pupils build life skills, develop confidence, and strengthen relationships, particularly at key transition points such as the start of Year Seven.
Last week, our Year Seven pupils had an exciting afternoon at Oaker Wood Leisure, where they took part in activities such as the Low Ropes Assault Course. This adventure-filled day was an excellent way for pupils to develop team-building and communication skills while forming strong bonds with their new classmates. These early experiences are crucial in helping pupils feel more connected and supported as they settle into their new environment.
Looking ahead, our annual Watersports trip to the Venetian Riviera offers another unique opportunity for pupils to develop both socially and personally. After a year of shared experiences, this trip provides a well-deserved break and allows pupils to deepen their friendships, build trust, and have fun together in an exhilarating setting.
Teacher of Philosophy & Religion and Head of EPQ, Miss Emily Smith, shared her reflections on the most recent Watersports trip, which took place this summer:
“For forty Year Seven pupils and five staff, the Summer holidays began with a sunshine and action-filled week on the Venetian Riviera. Pupils developed skills in paddleboarding and canoeing, enjoyed time swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, and played games on the beach. The resort’s excellent facilities and proximity to the Watersports Centre made it a perfect location for adventure. A mid-week trip to Caribe Bay Water Park was a highlight for many, offering thrills like Europe’s highest slide and a relaxing Lazy River Ride.
Throughout the trip, pupils continued to strengthen the friendships formed in their first year at RGS. Whether it was working together to stand on a paddleboard or deciding which water slide to try, teamwork and mutual support were at the heart of every activity. Staff were consistently impressed by the pupils’ responsibility, positive attitude, and willingness to challenge themselves, which made the trip a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all.”
As we reflect on the start of the year, we hope that our new Year Seven pupils found the day at Oaker Wood inspiring and are excited about the adventures ahead, including their Watersports trip at the end of the year. These experiences play a vital role in ensuring our pupils grow personally as well as academically, developing friendships and skills that will serve them well throughout their time at RGS Worcester and beyond.
