RGS Pupil Shortlisted in RSB Young Photographer Awards
We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of Year Eight pupil Orla Roundell, who has been shortlisted for the Royal Society of Biology’s prestigious ‘Young Photographer of the Year’ competition.
Orla entered the competition under this year’s theme, ‘Transforming Life,’ with a photograph titled “Busy Bee Transforming the Landscape (A Western Honeybee on Cow Parsley)”. Orla took her photograph at Croome Court, a National Trust property and captured the honeybee in action, showcasing nature’s transformative beauty. Her image stood out among over 1,000 entries, with only nine finalists selected in the ‘Young Photographer of the Year’ category.
Orla explained how she captured her photo commenting: “Bees play such a crucial role in transforming life through their pollination. I watched this bee, and others travel from plants in the meadow and felt this photograph, where the bee is on his adventure, was the best one.”
The Biology Department encouraged pupils to participate in this national competition, where two amateur photographers ultimately received top honours—one for ‘RSB Photographer of the Year’ and another for ‘RSB Young Photographer of the Year’. Orla’s shortlisted image is now featured on the RSB website, and her achievement has also been highlighted by local media, including the Worcester Observer.
Congratulations to Orla on this remarkable accomplishment! We look forward to seeing her continue to develop her talent in photography.
