Rehearsals Underway for the DIY Drama Company
Following the success of ‘Zorro the Musical’, rehearsals are well underway for the next RGS Worcester theatre production. In March, William Shakespeare’s play ‘Hamlet’ will be performed in the Performing Arts Centre on four nights. ‘Hamlet’ is one of the most powerful and influential tragedies ever written and follows the planned production of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ which was sadly cancelled just days before opening night at the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
This production is planned, rehearsed and staged by the DIY Drama Company at RGS. Established in 2015, the Company comprises Drama Scholars from Years Seven to the Upper Sixth who work towards a production with the support and direction of Director of Drama, Mrs Jilly Witcomb, to be staged towards the end of the Lent term. What is so unique about the DIY Drama Company is that the entire process of bringing a script to the stage is led by the cast members, allowing them a fresh sense of responsibility and the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre, including costume, set design, make-up, stage management, lighting and sound, selling tickets, marketing and production of a programme, in addition to acting.
Mrs Jilly Witcomb says “I am delighted that The DIY Drama Company have come together once again to rehearse and perform in the Performing Arts Centre. We have such an exciting production ahead and I am so looking forward helping support The DIY Company and to see how the cast bring this production to life”.
This DIY Drama Company production will feature two casts which will alternate and support one another each night either performing on stage or behind the scenes with lighting, sound and props. The cast reveal is imminent and we look forward to the performances on 14, 15, 16 and 17 March. Tickets go on sale from 13 February and we look forward to welcoming you as we ask ourselves, “To be, or not to be, that is the question”.
