Outstanding Cricket Performances at ‘Flagge’ and ‘Ossie’s’
The RGS Cricket grounds of Flagge Meadow and St Oswald’s Fields have witnessed thrilling displays of skill and determination in recent fixtures, demonstrating the talent and commitment of RGS Worcester’s cricketers.
The 1st XI hosted Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Flagge Meadow on Tuesday, 18 June. Opting to field first, as instructed by MCC skipper Dan Goodyear, an alumnus of RGS Worcester, the team faced a formidable challenge. MCC set a competitive total of 231-4 in 50.2 overs before declaring an hour before Tea.
The standout performance came from Upper Sixth student Zak Crowther-Green, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 122 runs, scoring at more than a run per ball. Zak’s exceptional display guided the 1st XI to chase down the target in just 41 overs. His stellar performance earned him a spot on the honours board in the pavilion at Flagge Meadow which records Centuries and five wicket hauls for the 1st XI. Zak featured on the board last year with his Century against King’s School Worcester.
In another thrilling match last Saturday, Year Ten pupil George Heywood, representing the RGS Under 15A team against KES Birmingham at St Oswald’s Fields, delivered a stunning batting display. Opening the innings, George smashed 116 runs off 84 balls, including 19 boundaries and 6 sixes. His aggressive batting propelled the team to a competitive total of 214-9 in their allotted 30 overs.
Well done to both Zak and George for such impressive performances.
