Opening Night Awaits for a Thrilling Tale of Love and Crime
With just a few days left until the opening night, excitement is building for the Senior School production of ‘Bonnie & Clyde’. The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this electrifying musical to life, and the result promises to be an unforgettable experience.
At RGS, our Senior School productions offer a range of Drama opportunities for every pupil, whether you are interested in acting, working backstage, or contributing to the technical side of the show. There are also opportunities for pupils to join the design team, assisting with costumes, makeup, and set creation.
As always, this production has been a true collaboration, with the expertise of our Music and Drama Departments blending seamlessly alongside the technical support of Mr Graeme and the professional choreography of Mrs Thompson. The teamwork and camaraderie that have gone into this production will make the performances even more special and memorable.
‘Bonnie & Clyde’ tells the story of two small-town outcasts from West Texas, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, who rise to infamy during the height of the Great Depression. As they chase fame and escape the poverty of their lives in West Dallas, their reckless love affair leads them down a dangerous path of crime, robbing banks and evading the law. The musical explores their thrilling and tragic journey, capturing the attention of an entire country.
Director of Drama, Mrs Jilly Witcomb, shared her excitement saying: “I am very excited about this year’s musical production, and it has been an absolute pleasure directing such a fast paced, funny and poignant re-telling of such an iconic story. For my dissertation at University, I focused on Crime and the Criminal in American Society through the ages and therefore studied this famous couple in depth as well as the whole American Dustbowl era and to now have the opportunity to re-explore it in a different genre and style through performance has been a brilliant experience.”
