National Success for RGS Worcester’s Swimming Academy
The RGS Worcester Swimming Academy team has qualified for the National Finals again after competing in the Regional heats.
The Girls’ Intermediate team (Year Ten) qualified with the 7th fastest time in the country in both the Freestyle and Medley Relay events for the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) Secondary School Team Championships. The Championships Finals will take place at Sandwell Aquatics Centre, the state-of-the-art facility used to host swimming at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
This superb achievement places the RGS Academy Swimming team in the top ranks nationwide. Competing at a national level in two events underscores the outstanding skill of the School’s swimmers as well as the high-quality coaching that supports them. The RGS Worcester Swimming Academy, led by coaches Jon Fletcher and Mark Hill, trains pupils every Tuesday morning at Perdiswell Leisure Centre. This programme provides specialist training that complements club commitments and supports each swimmer’s competitive and personal growth. The Academy has achieved great success in reaching the National Finals several times in the past and its success continues.
Commenting on the achievement, the Headmaster said, “The dedication of our swimmers and coaches has been nothing short of exceptional, and this qualification in both events is a testament to their hard work. We wish them every success at the National Finals when they race against the very best swimming schools in the country in a major venue. Having qualified so well, they can take these schools on with confidence; it will be a wonderful experience.”
