Making a Splash: RGS Worcester reaches ESSA National Swimming Finals
It is with great delight that we can report that RGS Worcester has qualified for both relay events at Junior Boys and Junior Girls age groups in the ESSA National Swimming Finals.
The Junior Boys team were twenty-sixth in the country in the Freestyle Relay and fourteenth in the Medley Relay. The Junior Girls’ team were placed in the top ten nationally with ninth place in both relays. To have both teams achieve the top thirty qualifying standard is a fantastic achievement.
The National Finals take place at the London Aquatic Centre on Saturday 19 November where the pupils will have an opportunity to race in the 2012 Olympic Games pool. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to compete against the best Junior swimmers in the country. One pupil commented that the qualification is “a real honour for us to compete in the National Finals”. One of our parents also highlighted how much qualification means to the pupils, “They have been dreaming of ESSA ever since they saw their brother compete”.
All the swimmers will now be training very hard at their swimming clubs between now and the finals. Particular thanks must go to swimming coaches Mark Hill and Jon Fletcher whose children competed in the ESSA finals for RGS Worcester in 2015. Both have been hugely supportive of our RGS swimmers over the years and I am sure they are very proud of the pupils. Thank you to Mr Stuart Davis for organising the team and accompanying them to the national qualifying round. Many congratulations to everyone involved.
