Magical Choral performance
At the end of last month, Year Eight pupil, Finnley Siembab and RGS Worcester Music Teacher, Mrs Claire Spencer, performed together in a fantastic concert, at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
The duo performed as part of The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Kazuki Yamada. Both Singers sang as part of ‘Carmina Burana’, by Carl Orff. This fantastic piece is a Cantata, with the text taken from a collection of medieval poems found in a Benedictine monastery, about the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of the return of spring and the pleasures and perils of an excessive lifestyle, all sang in a combination of Latin and German. The piece is a dynamic, high energy work designed for a vast orchestra and as many singers as you can get on the stage!
Finnley sings with the CBSO Children’s Chorus and Mrs Spencer with the adult Chorus and they were also joined by the CBSO Youth Chorus and University of Birmingham Voices.
Finnley said of the experience, “It felt magical performing with The CBSO Orchestra and massed choirs on the world-famous stage of Symphony Hall Birmingham, with Mrs Spencer. What an amazing experience!” Luckily for him, he will get to do it all again, when the performance is repeated as part of the BBC Proms Concerts at The Royal Albert Hall in Prom 17 on Thursday 27 July.
The CBSO Children’s Chorus and Youth Chorus, rehearses each Monday at The CBSO Centre in Birmingham, conducted by Julian Wilkins. For details of how to audition, follow this link to the CBSO website.
