London Trip Sparks Creativity for A Level Textiles Projects
Lower Sixth Textiles students travelled to London last weekend to explore the array of research opportunities for their individual Personal Investigation coursework projects. This visit provided an ideal opportunity to carry out some primary research, source inspiration and document some initial starting points to expand on in the classroom.
The Personal Investigation forms a significant part of the A Level qualification and gives the students an opportunity to devise their own project brief and demonstrate depth and breadth in their research and responses within a chosen area of fashion and textile design.
The day started with a visit to The Saatchi Gallery to see the ‘Flora in Contemporary Art and Culture’ exhibition. This was a vibrant experience with over 500 pieces of artwork covering painting, sculpture, photography, textiles and media. We then headed to the V&A Museum to explore the History of Fashion Collection. In the afternoon we attended the ‘Vogue: Inventing the Runway’ immersive show, celebrating 100 years of Vogue, at the brand new venue in Coal Drops Yard, The Lightroom. This was an immersive and exhilarating journey into the world of the catwalk with the likes of Dior, Chanel, Westwood and McQueen.
The day was full of visual inspiration and the students returned to Worcester with photographs and sketches to sustain the future of their Personal Investigation project.
