‘Let’s Sing’ Music Event Unites Local Primary Schools
Yesterday, RGS Worcester hosted a Music Outreach & Partnerships event, bringing together 100 enthusiastic pupils from Years Four and Five from four local Primary Schools including Martley CE Primary School, Hollymount School, Honeywell Primary School and Northwick Manor Primary School.
The ‘Let’s Sing’ event took place in Perrins Hall, led by Director of Music, Mr Jonathan Soman, and accompanied by RGS piano teacher Mrs Katie Silk. The Headmaster welcomed the pupils and staff before the singing began.
Pupils enjoyed fun vocal warm up exercises to start the session and then sang a simple three-part round to get them singing in parts. They then learned their main piece: a special ABBA medley, inspired by RGS’s recent ABBA performance in the Cathedral concert and the fact that ABBA won Eurovision fifty years ago this month. The Primary School children first built up their own voice-led musical soundscape, emulating different instruments and musical sounds, before reflecting on this with a version of ‘Thank You For The Music’ and, finally, ‘Dancing Queen’. The Outreach event culminated in a video recording of this unique ABBA set. The final film will be shared with the Primary Schools as a memento of the day. The children also enjoyed a performance from RGS Rock Band AKT-II who played ‘Johnny Be Goode’ to them.
Head of Year Six at Northiwck Manor Primary School commented: Thank you for inviting Northwick Manor to the Let’s Sing Event. It was amazing! The organisation, range of activities and the skilled delivery were all fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed it and found it such a rewarding, enjoyable morning. The young people in the band were brilliant as were the Music teachers”.
The ‘Let’s Sing’ event forms a popular part of RGS Worcester’s Outreach & Partnerships programme which aims to welcome local schools and other establishments into The RGS Worcester Family of Schools, supporting them with their curriculum provision and sharing RGS’s specialist teachers and facilities with the local community.
We look forward to hosting more engaging Outreach & Partnerships events in the future.
