Junior Maths Challenge
Earlier this term over 100 pupils from Years Seven and Eight took part in the Junior Mathematics Challenge. This annual competition gives pupils the chance to test their problem-solving abilities against others from across the country with a selection of mathematical conundrums to answer. This year’s RGS cohort achieved an excellent set of results, with 88 pupils gaining certificates, of which an impressive 24 were Gold.
Top performers were Isabella Gabriel in Year Seven and Rory Guthrie in Year Eight who scored 112 and 111 out of 135 respectively. 13 of our top-performing pupils have also qualified for the follow-on ‘kangaroo’ round in June. The name Kangaroo acknowledges the contribution made by Australia to establishing large-scale mathematics contests. Here is a flavour of a couple of questions from this year’s paper so see how you would have got on!
