Intrepid Rowers at Eton Dorney Easter Camp
During the Easter holidays, RGS rowers seized the opportunity to participate in a Rowing Camp at Eton Dorney, the Rowing venue used for the London 2012 Olympic Games. This experience provided them with the opportunity to enhance their skills on the water. Head of Rowing, Mr Tim Messent shares the following report:
“Given that the lake would host major competitions later in the year, the camp offered the chance for our pupils to acclimate to the water before competitive races. Despite contending with the windy conditions brought on by storm Kathleen, the rowers made the most of their time.
A highlight of the camp was an evening spent with former pupil Tom Dyson MBE, who shared invaluable insights on propelling boats to peak performance. Tom, currently serving as the Head of Olympic and Paralympic Performance Delivery for British Rowing, drew from his extensive coaching background, including 14 years with the Paralympic Programme, to share insights on boat velocity. His involvement spurred engaging discussions, empowering both rowers and coaches to refine their techniques throughout the camp.
Amidst rigorous training and academic revision, the rowers also found moments of relaxation, enjoying a film night featuring ‘Boys in the Boat’ and indulging in a game of bowling on the final evening.
It was great to see the experienced rowers from the Senior squad support the Year Ten rowers as they continue along the successful Rowing pathway at RGS Worcester”.
