Four-Goal Victory Secures Challenge Cup for RGS
The annual Football Challenge Cup saw RGS Worcester’s 1st XI team secure a decisive victory over King’s School at Sixways Stadium. A large crowd of supporters created a vibrant atmosphere as both teams battled for possession. RGS made an early impact, with centre-forward Hayden Parkes opening the scoring within the first 15 minutes, swiftly followed by a goal from Albert Padmore, establishing a strong advantage at half-time.
Following a focused team talk from Head of Football, Mr Gary Leeds, the squad returned to the pitch with determination. Parkes extended the lead early in the second half with his second goal of the match before team captain Will Edgehill secured the victory with a fourth.
Mr Leeds commended both teams for their performance, saying, “It was fantastic to see our 1st XI represent the School at Sixways Stadium, an experience they have anticipated throughout their time at RGS.” He also expressed his gratitude to parents and staff for their support throughout the Football season.
One of the neutral officials for the match wrote to the Headmaster of RGS, complimenting the players for the spirit in which they played the game and their positive behaviour throughout. John Pitt, Headmaster, said, “This means more to us than any result. It is so important that our players are positive role-models for younger pupils and I thought both teams played the match with determination and showed excellent team spirit and fair play. Thank you to the match officials, the Sixways staff and to the coaches, the players, and all of the spectators for your support. What a wonderful opportunity for our Schools and for our pupils.”
Our thanks go to the King’s School for a competitive contest and to Sixways Stadium for their hospitality. Congratulations to all players on an outstanding performance. The 4-0 victory was featured in the Worcester News online yesterday and in the paper copy today.
