Festivities at The RGSW Family of Schools
The RGS Worcester Family of Schools has embraced the festive season with warmth and generosity as winter settles in, bringing crisp mornings and seasonal cheer. Despite busy academic and co-curricular schedules, pupils and staff have united to celebrate the season through performances, charitable initiatives, and creative projects.
Today, pupils at RGS Worcester wore Christmas jumpers to support the Sixth Form’s chosen charity, The Myriad Centre, which supports young adults with learning disabilities. A £1 donation earned a jumper day pass, House points, and a chance to win a ‘Best Christmas Jumper’ prize. The Worcester Foodbank appeal also continued, with generous contributions from pupils, some choosing donations over Secret Santa gifts.
Seasonal highlights this week included ‘Christmas with the Big Band’ and the annual Carol Service at Worcester Cathedral, and, of course, Christmas Lunch today. House spirit soared during Senior House Dance yesterday evening, during which Senior students performed festive routines to this year’s theme of The ‘90s.
At RGS The Grange, festivities began with the Great Witley Service of Light, where the Junior and Chamber Choirs enchanted the audience with beautiful vocals. The Christmas spirit continued with ‘Simply Nativity,’ featuring 84 pupils from Reception, Year One, and Year Two. Reception pupils also enjoyed an exciting trip to Smart Trees, meeting Santa, riding a sleigh, and creating reindeer food. Year One visited Claines Church, learning about the Advent wreath, Christingle, and the Christmas story. Year Three embraced the Advent season by crafting 3D dioramas, writing letters of thanks, and studying the significance of the Christingle. Meanwhile, the Ladybirds immersed themselves in Christmas crafts, gingerbread baking, and festive songs.
At RGS Springfield, the Christmas spirit flourished with two Nativity performances. Years One, Two, and Three captivated families at St Helen’s Church with a magical production. Early Years staged a Garden Nativity, creatively using the walled garden and slide as part of their performance. Wreath-making sessions and after-school crafts have turned Springfield into a Winter Wonderland with handmade stockings, candy canes, and snowflakes, with the Carol Service at All Saints Church adding to the festive celebrations.
At RGS Dodderhill, the Christmas season has seen many performances and creative contributions. Pupils from Years One to Four performed the original play ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,’ featuring songs written by Mrs Jay-Jones. The School also contributed to Droitwich’s community Nativity display, with Mrs Hatfield and Year Seven pupil Tabitha painting a Wise Man for Peacock’s shop window. The Nursery and Pre-School children showcased their talents in a magical Christmas performance and the Carol Service will take place tomorrow.
As the Michaelmas term concludes, we wish everyone a joyful Christmas break filled with peace, happiness, and festive cheer!
