Exploring Healthcare Horizons
Last Thursday, RGS hosted a healthcare event, welcoming back two RGS alumni, along with a medical student from the University of Birmingham and a Physiotherapist from the University of Worcester. The event was designed to provide students with an informal platform to interact with healthcare professionals, sparking curiosity and providing valuable insights into the dynamic field of healthcare.
Through one-on-one conversations, students gained insights into the indispensable role of rehabilitation and physical therapy within the realm of healthcare as well as the different courses on offer for Physiotherapy.
Later in the afternoon, students engaged in informal discussions with medical students from the University of Birmingham, two of whom are RGS alumni. Their conversations illustrated the dedication and resilience required to excel in the demanding field of Medicine and provided detailed tips for students considering applying to medical school.
Head of Year Eight, Mrs Deboarh Harkess commented: “It was truly heart-warming to welcome Kitty, Hebe (both former pupils) and Lewis from Birmingham medical school to RGS. They had generously taken time out of their busy schedules to visit and share their experiences with our aspiring medics. Their recent journey through the application process equipped them with invaluable insights, allowing them to offer both practical advice and comforting reassurance. Additionally, hearing first-hand accounts of their daily lives in medical school provided our students with a vivid glimpse into what lies ahead. Their reflections on navigating the challenges and successes encountered thus far served as both inspiration and guidance for those following in their footsteps”.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the prospect of hosting similar events in the future. In June, the Careers and Employability Programme will offer mock interviews for Sixth Form students. If alumni or parents are available and would be interested in assisting with Lower Sixth mock interviews on 28 June, please contact the RGS Head of Careers, Mrs Audrey Williams at apw@rgsw.org.uk. We would be delighted to have your expertise as we train up our pupils for their bright futures.
