Empowering Young Leaders Through Martial Arts
Recently, Physics teacher Mr Richard Willis lent his expertise to a unique community outreach initiative by helping to run a Martial Arts awards event for young leaders. Organised in collaboration with Ross Iannoccaro, a long-established Ju Jutsu instructor, the event celebrated the achievements of young martial artists who are being trained to become future leaders in the sport.
At the event, ten students were awarded the prestigious Tai Jutsu Kai Bronze Leader Awards, recognising their commitment and progress in developing teaching skills. These awards are part of a broader programme designed to equip young martial artists with the knowledge, confidence, and teaching abilities needed to become effective and inspiring instructors for all Tai Jutsu Kai clubs. By cultivating strong future instructors, the programme provides a tremendous resource for people of all ages in the community who wish to learn self-defence.
Richard Willis, a former Tai Jutsu Kai (TJK) student himself, shared his passion for the organisation: “As a past student of TJK myself (being Worcester born and bred), I have seen the huge opportunities for personal development it brings. Being such a friendly, family-focused organisation that develops young people’s confidence so well, I was only too happy to offer my help.”
As part of the initiative, Richard has used his professional teacher training skills to assist Ross Iannoccaro in designing a leadership programme that aligns with national teaching standards. The programme aims to ensure young martial artists are not only skilled practitioners but also capable mentors and role models, helping to secure the longevity and success of this 40+ year Worcestershire organisation with multiple Ju Jutsu clubs.
The Tai Jutsu Kai Bronze Leader Awards event exemplifies how community partnerships can create lasting opportunities for young people to grow in confidence and capability.
