Easter Tennis Action
Daisy Williams and Theo Houston both had successful performances at The Cheltenham College Easter Open Grade 4 tennis tournament during the Easter holidays.
Daisy won the Girls Under 16 Singles consolation final in fine style, remarkably winning both sets without losing a game. Theo made it through to the Under 16 Boys final and, in a highly competitive match, was edged out by two sets to one by an older competitor ranked over 250 places higher than him.
Daisy and Theo both showed true RGS grit in difficult blustery conditions to play some great tennis on the day. Daisy also competed in the Girls Under 18 Doubles, finishing 4th and went one better in the Ladies Doubles finishing in a very credible 3rd place.
Over Easter, Theo Houston also qualified through to the regional stage of the prestigious ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ Under 18 Doubles event later in the summer. The winners of this event get the opportunity to play at a national event on the grass courts of Wimbledon! Daisy is due to play the equivalent Girls Under 18 qualifying match in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile in the Under 14 Singles ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ event Dylan Cornacchia, Ayrton Little, Jack Johnstone and Ben Williams all qualified to the County Finals with the winner also competing on the most famous grass courts in the world!
We wish all pupils participating in the ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ the best of luck in their next round of matches.
