Celebrating Success and New Beginnings: Farewell Class of 2024
Last week, Upper Sixth students celebrated their time at RGS with two special events.
The first celebration opportunity was the Upper Sixth Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday evening. This year’s Ceremony was held in Perrins Hall, with refreshments served afterward on the Long Walk lawns. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the past and look forward to a bright future, as well as a chance for students and parents to catch up after the Public Examinations.
After a welcome from the Chair of Governors, Mr Andrew Greenway, students were presented with Certificates and Prizes awarded for their contributions and achievements whilst at the School.
We had the pleasure of welcoming our Guest of Honour for the evening, Mr Tom Dyckhoff who is an RGS Alumnus. Tom is a writer, academic, and broadcaster on cities, architecture, and visual culture. He teaches at University College London and Central St Martins. He has presented TV series such as BBC’s The Great Interior Design Challenge and Channel 4’s The Secret Life of Buildings, and judges Channel 4’s Handmade. He authored The Age of Spectacle and The Architecture of London 2012. Formerly, Tom was an architecture critic for The Times and has written for numerous publications. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a trustee of the London Festival of Architecture. Tom spoke to the Upper Sixth Leavers about his career and delivered incredibly relevant, inspiring and empowering words, which were very well received by the students and their parents.
The Headmaster then closed the Graduation Ceremony with a speech summarising the many achievements of the Upper Sixth students, wishing them all the very best for the future and thanking parents for their commitment to RGS over many years. Mr Pitt said, “What an incredible year it has been and our Upper Sixth students have been superb, ably taking the lead and being excellent role-models for younger pupils. It has been a year of great achievement across all areas of school life from a talented group of students who will be missed. They now become ‘Old Elizabethans’ and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future.”
On Wednesday evening, the Upper Sixth Leavers’ Ball, held at Stanbrook Abbey Hotel, provided the second opportunity for the Class of 2024 to celebrate their achievements and life-long friendships forged at RGS Worcester, before they embark on the next chapter of their lives; University, Gap Years, Higher Level Apprenticeships or the world of work. Students enjoyed a three-course dinner, followed by an evening of dancing. The celebrations then continued in Worcester for many.
Congratulations to the Upper Sixth students, and we look forward to seeing you on Results Day in August.
