‘Bonnie and Clyde’ Takes to the Stage in November
It is that time of year again when excitement builds for the Senior School Musical, which this year is ‘Bonnie and Clyde’.
This Musical will tell the story of the height of the Great Depression. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow went from two small-town nobodies in West Texas to America’s most renowned folk heroes and the Texas law enforcement’s worst nightmares. Fearless, shameless, and alluring, ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ is the electrifying story of love, adventure and crime that captured the attention of an entire country. When Bonnie and Clyde meet, their mutual cravings for excitement and fame, combined with a desperate need to lift themselves out of the endless banality and poverty of West Dallas, set them on a mission to chase their dreams. Their bold and reckless behaviour turns the young lovers’ thrilling adventure into a downward spiral, putting themselves and their loved ones in trouble with the law. Forced to stay on the run, the lovers resort to robbery and murder to survive. As the infamous duo’s fame grows bigger, their inevitable end draws nearer.
Director of Drama, Mrs Jilly Witcomb, commented: “I am very excited about this year’s musical production, and it is going to be an absolute pleasure directing such a fast paced, funny and poignant re-telling of such an iconic story”.
This production will see a young cast with many taking on lead roles for the very first time, as well as Upper Sixth students, many of whom have been in every production at RGS. The whole ethos behind RGS Drama and Music is to expand our offering and give opportunities to all.
Headmaster of RGS Worcester, Mr Pitt said: “I am delighted by the ambition of our Drama and Music departments to continue to develop our Creative Arts provision. They challenge our actors, musicians and performers to take on new and exciting opportunities, and this musical is no exception”.
The lead role in this performance of ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ will be Arthur Hasling, who will be playing ‘Clyde’ and commented: “This is my second production at RGS, and I’m extremely excited”.
Kitty Hildred, who will play ‘Bonnie’, said: “I am a Drama Scholar currently studying Drama A Level. This has been an amazing opportunity to play Bonnie Parker and tell her thrilling and infamous story through the music of Frank Wildhorn.”
‘Bonnie and Clyde’ will be performed in the RGS Performing Arts Centre from Monday 25 November to Friday 29th November. Tickets will be available to purchase on Trybooking.com from Monday 4 November.
