BBC Singer, Composer and Instrumentalist Leads Workshop at RGS Worcester
Last Saturday, RGS Worcester hosted a Singing Workshop for students from Years Eight to the Lower Sixth from schools in the surrounding area. The workshop was led by BBC Singer Aga Serugo Lugo, a multi-instrumentalist jazz musician, composer and choir leader from London.
Around sixty students from five local senior and high schools attended, including twenty-seven keen singers from RGS Worcester. The morning involved no sheet music, but rather learning spirituals, pop songs and other contemporary songs by ear, building up vocal layers as well as clapped and stamped rhythm patterns.
Ridhima Canchi, in Year Eight at RGS Worcester, commented, “My experience of attending this singing workshop was amazing. Led by Aga, we practiced lots of different songs. Encouraged by our enthusiastic and lively leader, we all participated, feeling at ease and we had an enjoyable singing experience. Singing in a workshop like this is a great way of practising various musical skills such as rhythm, vocal range and singing together as a group. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this workshop and look forward to any more workshops like this in the future!”.
Thank you to everybody who participated in the workshop.
