Architecture Competition Inspires RGS Pupils
We were delighted to welcome Mr Mark Owen from Owen Hicks Architecture to RGS Worcester to lead an inspiring Careers Seminar for our pupils. During the Seminar, Mr Owen provided a comprehensive overview of the architecture profession, highlighting its diversity, challenges, and rewards. Pupils had the chance to learn about the various paths within architecture, offering them a unique insight into a creative and dynamic field.
Building on the Seminar, Mr Owen and Head of Careers, Mrs Williams, launched an exciting architecture competition open to pupils from Years Seven to Upper Sixth. The competition encouraged participants to apply their creativity and problem-solving skills to a real-world architectural brief. With prizes to be won, pupils were invited to visit the Careers Room for further details and to begin their work on the competition.
Last Thursday, Mr Owen, joined by School Governor Mr Stephen Flutter, reviewed the impressive entries and awarded prizes. Year Nine pupil Freddie Poynton took first place, while Year Ten pupil Aayush Nilak was named runner-up.
Freddie, upon receiving first place, commented, “I was genuinely lost for words when I heard the news; the work I put in definitely paid off. It’s really exciting to think that part of my design will be immortalised in the school”.
Aayush shared his thoughts as runner-up, saying, “This architecture competition was full of ups and downs. Each challenge pushed me to think differently and every step along the way helped me grow”.
Congratulations to both pupils for their excellent entries in the competition. We would like to thank Mr Owen and Mr Flutter for their time and expertise and to Mrs Williams for her continued support in providing such valuable Careers opportunities and opportunities for our pupils.
We look forward to seeing how these experiences will inspire our pupils as they continue to explore potential career paths and creative pursuits.
