Adventures in the Kitchen
Out of the crazy times that beset us at the moment, comes a truly positive ray of sunshine – RGS Kitchen Adventures with Mrs Nicholls. This weekly virtual Cookery Club, from the comfort and ease of participants’ homes, would have been difficult to achieve at school with over 30 pupils signed up.
Last week’s adventure was lasagne with pupils building on the skills learnt from the first week (making a tomato sauce) whilst adding to their skills base the tricky white sauce in order to create delectable versions of the classic Italian dish. This week the challenge was meatballs and spaghetti.
We may not claim to be the most amazing chefs in the county, but having confidence in the kitchen and being able to create a dish without a definite recipe is a life skill. And from the comments and pictures, the pupils are clearly enjoying the challenge, whilst at the same time feeding their families a delicious meal that they have made entirely on their own.
Not to be outdone, Mrs Houchin’s 11C form took part in their own ‘Lockdown’ version of Master Chef and rose to the challenge, with the photographic evidence below proving their efforts and culinary creations.
