A Historic Season for Girls’ Hockey
The Under 18 Senior Girls’ Hockey team closed out their 2024-25 season in spectacular fashion last Friday evening, securing a commanding 3-1 victory over Bromsgrove School at the Worcester International Hockey Centre. This win rounded off what has been a truly remarkable season for the Hockey squad.
Over the course of two terms, the team played an impressive 28 fixtures, including a pre-season tour, competitive cup matches, and domestic league games. They demonstrated outstanding offensive and defensive prowess, scoring a total of 76 goals while conceding just 32, finishing with a remarkable goal difference of 44.
Throughout the season, the Under 18 girls showcased their dominance, defeating all Worcestershire competition. Their only cup defeat came in a dramatic ‘shuffles’ shootout against eventual champions Loughborough High School. Perhaps the most historic achievement of the season was their undefeated record at home—a feat never before accomplished in the team’s history.
Head of Hockey, Miss Sally Walton OLY said: “This group of players has shown exceptional dedication, skill, and teamwork. To remain unbeaten at home and compete at such a high level all season is a testament to their hard work and resilience.”
The team gathered after the match to celebrate with pizza and Miss Walton gave each of the Upper Sixth players a send off after their final RGS match, wishing them all the very best for their future Hockey careers. The Headmaster congratulated the team and marked their achievements, while also thanking parents present for their unstinting support.
The Under 18 Senior Girls have certainly cemented their legacy as one of the most successful Sports teams in recent RGS history. Very well done, team!
