Reaching Out with the RGS Worcester DLP
The RGS Worcester Digital Learning Programme team has assisted with two very different Outreach projects recently.
Last week we visited a local primary school, Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School just over the River Severn in St John’s. As a consequence of the pandemic, the school had acquired a number of iPads and a subscription to the Jamf Mobile Device Management system. However, having only dealt with Windows laptops previously, they were at a loss about what to do next. The school was very much aware of RGS Worcester’s Apple Distinguished School Status and made contact to see if we could help. Therefore, Assistant IT Services Manager, Nick Tilling and I headed over to the school to take a look at the set-up, and start the process of getting the devices into classrooms where they can have real impact on pupils’ teaching and learning. With phase one complete, we look forward to continuing our work together to help ensure the devices become a meaningful part of the school’s everyday learning.
At the same time, 20 old RGSW iPad 4s were put on a plane heading to Tongo Senior High School, in Ghana. The RGS Worcester Family of Schools has been developing a relationship with Tongo School over a number of years and we have previously sent some technology for pupils and teachers to use. We were delighted to hear from Headmaster, Apana Thomas Akolgo over the summer and learn that the donations were really helping with the teaching and learning of ICT in the school. We look forward to seeing pictures of the devices in action very soon and will share these with the RGS community.
