Next Stop Oxbridge
We are delighted to congratulate RGS students who have received offers to begin courses at Oxford or Cambridge Universities this September. Securing offers at such competitive universities is a huge achievement in normal circumstances; it is perhaps more impressive for our current Upper Sixth, the first and only cohort to have navigated the admissions process remotely and against a national backdrop of educational disruption. It is all the more of an achievement given that far fewer offers have been made this academic year.
Will Osborne has secured an offer to read Mathematics at Oxford University. Aside from being a brilliant mathematician, Will is also a national level fencer. Will had this to say about his offer: “It was only a year ago that I decided to dive properly into Maths, but I’ve had a fantastic time exploring the subject. Receiving an offer from Oxford makes me realise just how far I’ve come, and how grateful I am to all of my teachers. Currently I’m renewing my focus on my A Levels, and I look forward to continuing my mathematical journey at Oxford.”
We also congratulate Liam Leonard, who received an offer to read Chemistry at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Outside of his academic successes, Liam is a gifted musician, whose achievements include winning the Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition. He is a brilliant pianist, double-bass player and can also turn his hand to the electric guitar and percussion. Liam commented: “I was really pleased to receive an offer from Oxford and I am thrilled to have this opportunity. I look forward to pursuing Chemistry at a higher level and becoming involved in research.”
Will and Liam are exemplars of the value of a fully-rounded education and of the importance of dedication and self-motivation, qualities which they have honed in their Academic and Co-curricular activities.
Amy Rogers, RGS alumna, has also secured an offer to read Mathematics at Selwyn College, Cambridge. During her time at school, Amy proved to be an exceptionally talented mathematician, winning a Distinction in the very competitive British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO). We wish her, Will, and Liam all the very best for their future studies.
