Navigating University Open Days
Head of Careers, Mrs Williams spends a significant amount of time supporting and guiding students through their university choices and applications, but imagine how difficult this would be to navigate in another language and in a country with systems that you are unfamiliar with.
Mrs Williams and RGS Head of Higher Education, Mr Hallett, have been supporting RGS Translation Support Assistant, Polina, with her options for continuing her degree studies in Computer Science.
Polina was studying Computer Science and in her First Year at university in Ukraine, before leaving her home due to the conflict and joining a host family in Worcestershire. Since her move to the UK earlier this year, Polina has become part of the RGS Community, supporting our pupils from the Ukraine, helping with translation and their integration into RGS school life.
Mrs Williams and Mr Hallett have been assisting Polina with her UK university choices, applications and also communication with university Admissions Departments, who are assessing each individual applicant’s case, in order to allocate a suitable place on a UK university course.
Last weekend, Polina and Mrs Williams visited the University of Birmingham Open Day to view the Computing Science and Maths Departments. They attended talks, toured departments, spoke with Admission Tutors and viewed accommodation and the library.
We wish Polina all the best with her university application and hope that she is able to continue her studies into Computer Science very soon.
