Lower Sixth Students Contemplate Life After RGS
Yesterday we were delighted to welcome parents and Lower Sixth students to our Higher Education Evening and the start of the exciting journey to decide upon what happens after leaving RGS. The evening provided a detailed look at how the School leads students through their application to Universities or Higher Degree Apprenticeships, with talks from the expert team at RGS.
Head of Careers, Mrs Williams, introduced the Careers provision at RGS and explained the extensive and expert advice and guidance available for each RGS student. Mrs Williams then spoke about Higher Level Degree Apprenticeships, discussing what they are, points to consider, and how to find out what Apprenticeships are available.
UCAS Co-ordinator, Mr Hallett, spoke about the process of applying for university, how to research courses and how parents can support their son or daughter with their application.
Head of Sixth Form, Mr Evetts, explained about student finance, including tuition fees and student loans, and how to navigate through the process successfully.
After the talks, refreshments were served, and attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and speak informally to staff. Students are now moving into an exciting chapter on their Sixth Form journey, with a focus on developing their Personal Statements and completing their applications. Tutors, the Sixth Form Team, and the Careers Department will continue to offer support and guidance throughout the whole application process and on Results Day and beyond. Parents are encouraged to contact the School at any point to discuss their child’s post-RGS plans if they would like to do so.
The Higher Education Evening marked the beginning of a crucial stage in the Lower Sixth students’ education journey and RGS Worcester is committed to supporting them every step of the way.
Thank you to those who joined us for the evening and to our staff members and Catering team.
John Pitt, Headmaster, said, “Thank you to parents and students for joining us for this well-attended and important event. Having had one of my children progress to University and now my second considering her options, I was really very impressed by the accurate advice we were all given by the experts: Mrs Williams, Mr Hallett and Mr Evetts. They unravelled the complexities of the application processes and finances clearly and succinctly, showing real expertise and understanding. As a parent, I know the students are in very capable hands and have exceptional Careers, University and Apprenticeships guidance available for them. We set out several years ago to create a Careers provision for the students at RGS that would stand out and I encourage all of them to take full advantage of what is the very best provision that they will find in any school.”
