Medical Applications
The Director of Medical Admissions from the University of Birmingham visited RGS on Tuesday to talk to pupils about the process of applying for Medicine. 58 pupils and several members of staff came to listen to Dr Ward explain the GCSE, A Level and UKCAT requirements.
Medical schools want students who have commitment, perseverance, initiative, concern for others and the ability to communicate. Dr Ward spent time emphasising these core values and attributes, along with having the ability to reflect on experiences of interacting with people from a wide variety of settings and understanding the demands of working in the medical profession.
The University of Birmingham receives 3,000 applications from potential medics for 400 places. It is one of the largest medical schools in the UK and some of our Upper Sixth students have applied to study there.
These Careers Seminars are a great way for pupils to gain insight into a range of different professions and learn about potential career routes after life at RGS Worcester. It is extremely important for our pupils to know the up-to-date entry requirements which may affect their GCSE and A Level subject choice, as well as any other tips to assist them make successful choices and applications.
We are very grateful to our speakers for giving up their time to host these sessions which help to open pupils’ minds to careers they haven’t previously considered, or provide unique information to assist them in their applications.
