Let’s Go Fly a Kite! Year Six Fabric Fun at RGS Worcester
The RGS Worcester Textiles Department welcomed Year Six pupils from RGS The Grange this week, for a morning of creativity and fabric fun. As well as experiencing a little of what life in the Senior school is like, the pupils took part in a fantastic Kite Making Workshop led by Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews. Pupils had the opportunity to develop and learn new skills, including how to use a sewing machine. After a busy and productive morning, pupils were treated to a well-earned snack, before heading back to The Grange for a spot of kite-flying in the school grounds!
Head of Design & Technology at RGS The Grange, Anna Pitt said: “The children had a brilliant time in the Textiles Department at RGS Worcester on Tuesday. They have been working on their kites all term – designing, planning, painting and cutting the fabric and so were ready for their sewing machine lesson. With expert tuition, they were all able to sew their kites together and were really proud of how much they achieved and, after adding their spars and kite lines, they were flying their kites by the end of the day! Thank you so much to the Senior School and particularly Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews for such a great experience.”
Head of Textiles at RGS Worcester, Jo Bishop added: “The pupils did remarkably well, learning how to use the sewing machines efficiently and safely and then applying their new skills to complete the production of their kites. They had lots of questions about creative activities at the Senior School and were a joy to teach! Very well done to the Year Six pupils!”
