Introducing our Sports Captains
We are delighted to introduce our new Focus Sports Captains for 2023/24. They are individuals who embody the RGS Charter for Sport by being Resolute, Gracious, Selfless and Willing and proud of ‘Being Green’.
Tom Odell will be Captain of Cricket. On becoming Captain, Tom said: “It brings me great pride to be Cricket Captain for the 2023/24 Cricket season. I am really looking forward to leading the team in the games ahead and have a successful season of Cricket. Then to conclude the year with the RGS festival in Guilford we will look to retain the trophy against the fellow RGS schools. I can’t wait for the year to get up and running”.
Katy Pitt will be the Captain of Girls’ Cricket. Katy commented: “I am privileged to have been chosen for this role, as the Girls’ Sport Captain for Cricket. I am looking forward to the upcoming Cricket season and seeing how we can improve on our performance from last year”.
Oliver Shelton is Captain of Football. Oliver said: “It is an honour to represent the Football 1st XI as Captain for the 2023-24 season. I have always looked up to this role since I joined RGS The Grange in Year Three. It will be a surreal moment when I get to walk the boys out at The Challenge Cup match. I hope we have a successful season and I can’t wait to get started”.
Izzy Thompson is Captain of Netball. Izzy commented on becoming Captain saying: “I remember attending my very first ‘Superball’ at the age of 9 as a pupil at RGS The Grange; from that night my ambition was to Captain the RGS 1st VII Netball Team. It is an honour to be a leader for RGS Netball this year as I have always wanted to guide and support my fellow teammates through both highs and lows. For me, the main aim this season is to inspire and encourage all athletes that are a part of the RGS Netball family to reach their highest potential. I promise that myself and the team will do our best to bring home the ‘Superball’ trophy again next year!”
Daniel Halkon is Captain of Rugby. Daniel commented: “It is a privilege to be Rugby Captain and I am really looking forward to leading the team through the Rugby season”.
Teyah Farmer is Captain of Hockey. On becoming Captain, Teyah said “I am really excited to be Hockey Captain in my final year at RGS having played Hockey since Year Five at RGS The Grange and having always looked up to previous Captains. I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my passion for Hockey with others and I am really looking forward to the challenges ahead, supporting and leading the team, to what so far, seems to be a promising season”.
Sam Taylor is Captain of Boys’ Rowing. Sam commented on becoming Captain saying: “I feel both delighted and honoured to have been appointed as Captain of Rowing. It is an especially exciting time for Rowing this year, now that it has become a Focus Sport, and I look forward to working alongside the coaches, Olivia, and also the Senior Boat Club Leadership Team to develop and further raise the profile of this sport within the school”.
