Graduation Day for 3 RGS brothers together
Over the summer, three brothers, all RGS alumni, celebrated their Graduation together at Cardiff University. Lewis Hammond, 24, achieved a 1st Class degree in Business Economics, with a year in industry, finishing his course in 2020. His brother Matthew, 23, started a year later and gained a 2:1 in Business Management, meaning they both completed their degrees in the same year. Youngest brother Tom, 21, has now gained a 2:1 degree in Business Management, finishing this year.
Remarkably, and because of the pandemic, Cardiff University held their Graduation ceremonies for those who graduated in the last 3 years all at once. The result was that rare occurrence of all three brothers graduating at the same time, all with degrees from Cardiff Business School, at ceremonies held at the Principality Stadium.
Mrs Sue Hammond, proud mother of Lewis, Matthew and Tom said: “It’s quite something, graduating at the same time, having been to the same Business School. It’s weird to think that thanks to Covid, we get this unique experience. The boys do have competitive natures and have egged each other on during their studies. They were the same all through their time at RGS. We are super proud of them.”
Lewis is now working at the accountancy firm KPMG in London, with Matthew working in management for Amazon. Now that he has completed his degree, Tom plans to go travelling before launching into his career.
Mr John Pitt, Headmaster commented, “What a wonderful story – to hear that all 3 brothers shared the same Graduation event. We are delighted to see that RGS set them up well for university and they have done so well and will now be embarking upon their careers. Lewis, Matthew and Tom played a full part in school life when they were at RGS and all the staff send their congratulations and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
