German Department receives UK-German Connection Award
The German Department is thrilled to have been awarded a bursary to develop a post-covid language exchange with Gymnasium Burgstädt, a grammar school near Chemnitz, Saxony in Germany.
Following an application made by Teacher of German, Dr James, who hosted a teacher, Frau Ricarda Schinköthe from Gymnasium Burgstädt in 2019, the award recognises the strong links established and which has continued between the schools through a pen pal scheme and online projects over the past three years. The award also intends to support the next exchange to take place during the next academic year.
Frau Ricarda Schinköthe, pictured below with Dr James was the first of three teachers who have spent time at RGS Worcester via the UK-German Connection ‘Host a Teacher Scheme’. In 2020, Herr Engel, a teacher from Heidelberg, visited RGS Worcester for two weeks, and in June this year we are looking forward to welcoming Frau Nicole Lang, who teaches at a school in Emden, in the far north-west corner of Germany, for two weeks.
We look forward to continuing this link and seeing it develop in the future, bringing great benefit not only to our Modern foreign Language Department, but the pupils and school as a whole.
