Geography Exploration in Devon
Last week, the Lower Sixth Geographers travelled to the Field Studies Centre in Slapton, Devon, to conduct research for their Non-Examined Assessment (NEA).
Head of Geography, Mrs Jenny Stace, provided this report on the field trip:
Despite encountering pouring rain and wind upon our arrival, students were able to conduct a human Geography pilot study in Totnes, exploring its status as a transitioning town.
The highlight of Tuesday was a walk along Start Bay in beautiful sunshine, during which the students learned various coastal fieldwork techniques along the way.
Wednesday morning, after a 5km run for those students who wanted to witness the glorious sunrise, was dedicated to studying water and carbon, with a particular focus on infiltration techniques for part of the A Level syllabus topic on contrasting land uses. In the afternoon/evening, students diligently worked on planning their NEA (Non-Examined Assessment) focus and titles.
On Thursday, students departed in different directions for data collection, demonstrating resilience and resourcefulness. The last morning was spent on statistical testing and marking the beginning of the write-up process. Although tired, students returned home on Friday afternoon content after a fulfilling week of Geographical exploration.
