GB Rowing Camp Selection
We are pleased to announce that two Year Eleven pupils, Lucy Whiteley and Olivia Hodgson, have been selected to attend the Great Britain Rowing Team J16 Crew Sculling Camp. The Camp will take place from 1 April 2023 to 3 April 2023 at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.
The selection process was extremely competitive, with 107 scullers from 62 clubs applying to attend. Only 20 boys and 20 girls were chosen based on their current performance and their potential to meet the performance criteria for the Under 19 GB Rowing Team selection in 2024-25. We are incredibly proud that Lucy and Olivia were among those selected for this honour.
Lucy commented, “I am really pleased to have been selected for the GB Rowing Camp and I am looking forward to continuing my Rowing development”.
Olivia added: “I’m very pleased to have been selected as one of the 20 girls to attend this Camp and I’m looking forward to being able to learn from the GB coaches and my fellow athletes”.
The sessions at the Camp will be led by the GB Rowing Team Under 19 Team coaches, who will provide valuable training and guidance to the young athletes. The Camp will also include strength and conditioning support from the English Institute of Sport, as well as specialist seminars delivered by subject experts in the evenings. Mr Tim Messent, RGS’s Head of Rowing, has received an invitation to attend the Camp to support our Scullers. Tim says, “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to support the Scullers at the Camp. The invitation is testament to the hard work and effort the scullers have put in to their training and competition. I am confident that Lucy and Olivia will make the most of this fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and develop their skills as Scullers”.
