Finding Quiet Amidst the Noise: Robin Pearson’s Poetic Journey
Robin Pearson, an Upper Sixth student with a passion for poetry, has recently embarked on an extraordinary journey of self-expression by self-publishing their own collection of poems, aptly titled ‘The World’s Too Loud Sometimes’.
Robin’s collection bears a title that resonates with the tumultuous times in which we live. In the age of constant political upheaval and information overload, the phrase ‘white noise’ was coined to convey the cacophony of opposing views that often confuse rather than enlighten. ‘The world’s too loud sometimes’, Robin reflects, emphasising the feeling of being caught in a storm of discordant voices when all they wanted was to check train times. It’s a sentiment many can relate to in today’s world.
‘The World’s Too Loud Sometimes’ is not a typical poetry collection. Robin delves into deeply personal themes with a distinct perspective. The works offer insights into the unconventional facets of our culture while providing a sharp critique of social media, patriarchal imbalances, and leadership. The collection encompasses a wide range of poetic forms, from touching sonnets to witty limericks and everything in between.
Robin’s journey into self-publishing began with a clear vision: meticulously researching formatting, advertising, and financing. Their journey through self-publishing involved exploring Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to bring their vision to life. They penned a rough draft of their poems, carefully formatted it, and proofread it to ensure the highest quality. Robin also designed the cover and incorporated illustrations within the book, making it a truly personal work of art.
In addition to their self-published collection, Robin achieved another milestone by having one poem published in a literary magazine. They submitted their work for consideration and the poem was selected for an issue titled ‘Sweet and Sour Slices of Life.’
Robin is currently studying A Levels in English, History, and Politics, which has significantly influenced their work. Politics, in particular, has inspired their poetry. As they look ahead to their future, Robin plans to study Creative Writing at University.
Robin Pearson’s journey as a self-published poet is a testament to the power of poetry as a medium of self expression and connection.
