Festivities at The RGS Worcester Family of Schools
As winter settles in, bringing colder mornings, darker evenings, and shorter days, our pupils resiliently navigate the chilly weather. They remain steadfast in embracing the season, actively pursuing opportunities within and beyond the classroom, on and off the field. Amidst their Academic and Co-curricular commitments, they also find moments to participate in the array of seasonal festivities that mark the conclusion of the term.
This week’s festive activities at RGS Worcester included Senior House Dance, featuring amusing performances from each of our four Houses. The theme for this year’s dances was ‘Festive Films.’
On Monday, our annual performance of ‘Christmas with the Big Band’, showcased the talents of our pupils and on Wednesday, Worcester Cathedral was filled by RGS pupils, parents, staff and supporters for our annual Carol Service. Today, we have enjoyed Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day.
The Charity Committee has also actively encouraged pupils and their families to join in the spirit of generosity by supporting three upcoming Charity events. The Committee requested every Form’s participation in the collection of food boxes for the Worcester Food Bank. A special screening of the Christmas film ‘Nativity’ took place in the Lecture Theatre from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm today, accompanied by an opportunity to donate to charity.
For today’s Christmas Jumper Day, pupils were invited to wear their favourite Christmas jumpers for a donation to the Grace Kelly Cancer Trust. A competition for the ‘best’ Christmas jumpers in the Quad during break added an extra layer of excitement, complete with prizes.
As the holiday season unfolds at The RGS Family of Schools, pupils in Years Three to Six at RGS The Grange have been immersed in festive creativity. They explored colours and textures through Christmas crafts, including playing with animals in shaving foam ‘snow,’ identifying robins, and enjoying festive stories. The younger pupils embraced the spirit of the season with Christmas crafts, from wreaths to bauble biscuits, adding a sprinkle of magic to their creations. RGS The Grange also proudly participated in the Christmas Tree Festival 2023 at Worcester Cathedral. Reception had an unforgettable week, marked by their first Nativity performance and a school trip to ‘Smart Trees,’ where they delivered letters to Santa. Year One pupils shone as Nativity stars, and their day continued with a visit to Claines Church to learn about Christmas in the church, exploring wreaths, and sharing Christmas stories. Today, as it is the last day of term, pupils enjoyed their final in-school festive activities with a Staff Pantomime, Christmas Grotto and Disco!
At RGS Springfield, festive joy has filled the week. Pupils and parents enjoyed wreath-making sessions and a delightful Nativity play by Early Years. Year Six personalised their Christmas Tree with homemade decorations, showcasing their creativity. Year One and Year Two put on a fabulous performance of ‘A Miracle in Town,’ celebrating baby Jesus. Year Four concluded their term with a sweet Christmas baking session, while the school enjoyed a festive wreath-making evening. In the Early Years, ‘Snuggle Up Stable’ brought magic to the Nativity, and Year Two had daily visits from Elvis the Elf, spreading cheer from the North Pole. Finally, the Sparkles group celebrated Christmas with a fantastic party, including delicious food and a visit from Santa himself. Festivities abound at RGS Springfield!
At RGS Dodderhill, the Christingle Service at St. Augustine’s Church was a touching celebration of hope and giving. Pupils also embarked on a ‘Christmas Journey’ and wore Christmas jumpers. Pupils embraced the spirit of Advent with a reverse Advent, collecting donations for a local women’s shelter and the Droitwich Food Bank. Prep pupils enjoyed baking ‘Melting Snowmen’ and ‘Christmas Pudding’ cookies. DT Club crafted enchanting reindeer marionette puppets just in time for Christmas. ‘Santa’s Special Golfers’ added fun to our festivities, with teams competing for the furthest drive. In Year Three and Four, a ‘Fiesta’ brought Spain to life, with students sharing Christmas traditions and enjoying ‘Chocolate con Churros.’
As the Michaelmas term concludes, we celebrate the festive spirit that has filled our Family of Schools. From enchanting festive performances to charitable initiatives, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a joyful break and hope that pupils can return rested and recharged.
