England Players return for Alumnae Hockey match
On Saturday 3 September we hosted the annual RGS Worcester alumnae hockey tournament, played at the Worcester International Hockey Centre.
An alumnae team played against current students, forming part of pre-season training for the Senior Hockey team. The alumnae were thrilled to be playing together again, and to have the opportunity to play Hockey on the high quality water-based pitches at the Centre, for some for the first time.
The players were: Kathryn Shaw, Grace Francis, Isabella Nott, Sophie Thompson, Lottie Atkinson, Catherine Czyrko, Lucy Newton, Lucy Ball and Sadie Hingley. Included in those were were four current and former England players on the pitch including Alice Atkinson in the Upper Sixth and then representing the alumnae, her sister, Lottie, Sophie Thompson and Izzy Nott, all who played for England teams at different stages. Several of the current and former pupils play National League Club Hockey. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the combination of skill and experience of the alumnae was rather intimidating for the Senior girls, and the alumnae celebrated a runaway victory, 6-0.
The alumnae team enjoyed the chance to meet up and play Hockey together again before they head off to their various universities and courses. It is lovely to see them still playing their Sport and we wish them all every success.
Miss Bennett, Head of Hockey, who organised the match said, “This fixture is a real highlight of the season to demonstrate the real ‘why’ behind what we do. Some of the Upper Sixth leavers were in my first Reception class at RGS Springfield and, having also coached many of them through prep level at RGS The Grange, it has been a real privilege to watch their journey to become very talented players, as well as kind and inspiring young adults. I know our alumnae cherish their RGS Hockey experience and it has given them the skills and tools for their future endeavours both on and off the pitch’’.
