Digital Learning Programme Engagement Evening
Before the Half term break, we welcomed pupils and over 50 Lower School parents to Perrins Hall for an insight into our Digital Learning Programme (DLP). Parents of Years Seven and Eight Pupils listened to Director of Innovation Mr John Jones who presented the benefits of our DLP and specifically, how this supports traditional learning as a ‘blended’ approach. Also present was RGS Worcester’s Digital Genius team who presented and shared a variety of tools and apps used across the School to enhance learning.
After hearing a number of presentations, including one from Year Eleven Digital Genius Zachary Jew, parents were invited to join an Edtech carousel to see our DLP in action. Parents were split into four groups and each group engaged with a different digital learning tool before moving on to the next. On Stand One was Showbie, our Digital Workflow Solution where marking in real time was taking place. On Stand Two, a demonstration of Apple Classroom and the ability to lock iPads and monitor iPad usage during lessons was displayed. Stand Three hosted an introduction to the parental powers facilitated by our Mobile Device Management Software, Jamf. Finally, on Stand Four there was an interactive demonstration of Kahoot, an exciting fun and intuitive quizzing platform.
After launching in September 2014, the Digital Learning Programme (DLP) in the Senior School has gone from strength to strength. Today, every pupil comes to school with an iPad whilst teachers are equipped with a MacBook, iPad and Apple Pencil. Digital learning is no longer just a vision, it is a reality that facilitates outstanding teaching and learning, every single day.
To achieve our vision, we rely on a dynamic technology platform that helps to drive the learning and teaching we see in our classrooms. We have embedded Apple technology across all our academic departments and ensured teachers have access to the latest Apple technology whilst providing on-going, personalised professional learning opportunities to help them use it. Indeed, we have developed the capabilities of both our staff and our pupils so they can realise the benefits of digital technology in enhancing teaching and learning, at our schools which have qualified for the award of Apple Distinguished Schools status.
As a consequence, our students leave RGS Worcester digitally literate both for their university studies and for the 21st Century workplace. Our Digital Learning Programme is all about enhancing the learning experience and preparing our students for their bright futures.
